All the moms I saw on Instagram inspired me with their obstacle courses and stepping stones, so I got the Motherly Haven Balance Stepping Stones [ *link ] and Mountain Stepping Stones [ *link ] from Amazon. I’m all about trying to create a fun and engaging environment for my curious toddler to help further her development and skill mastering - while making it fun!

Some main points, both the good and bad:
Price: $40
Material: High-density, thick styrofoam
Light-weight and easy to stack
The shape and surface size of the step make it challenging for young toddlers
Slippery - the top isn’t as grippy as I would prefer and when wet, it’s very slippery
My daughter is currently 13 months and she’s been walking since 10.5 months. It has taken her about a month to get used to having the stepping stones in her play yard and she only uses them when it’s against the fence so she can hold on while on the stepping stones.

Some main points, both the good and bad:
Price: $37
Material: Plastic
Great surface area for young toddlers - just the top one is small but I think that’s the “challenge” of it
Silicone grips help keep it stable - it doesn't slip and slide on the flooring ( tested on carpet, rug, and hardwood )
Not easy to stack - curves need to line up correctly, you can’t just toss them on top of each other if you want them to sit nicely ( tip: there are lines on the side to line up to make it easier )
The texture is uncomfortable for me to stand on, so I’m not sure how comfortable it is for my toddler
My daughter took to these pretty easily. She did have the styrofoam ones first, so the concept of using these wasn't new when we introduced these stepping stones. She can step on these without needing to hold onto something because the surface area is better than the styrofoam ones, so I’m unsure if the texture prevents her from doing so.
After using and comparing the two of them, I would go with the Mountain Stepping Stones - it saves you a few dollars and I think the safety part of it is enough to convince me it’s the better option. The fact that it doesn’t slip and slide around is important, especially with a crazy toddler or young child.
Treat yourself today, mama! You deserve that small treat you’ve been thinking about. ( For me, it’s an iced matcha ). 💕- Krysti
