Browsing Amazon, I came across ‘OOOK’ Montessori Play Box [ *Amazon Link Here ] and tried them. For the first year of our daughter’s life, I tried out Lovevery’s play kits, which are pretty expensive. These are a fraction of the cost, but do they live up to the expectations and the bar that Lovevery has set in my mind?
Ball Track: The action of picking up the rolling block and rolling it down the tower helps promote children’s hand-eye coordination and visual tracking abilities.
Rainbow Nesting Cups: These can be used for various things - stacking, nesting, shape sorting, and water toys.
My daughter loves the ball track toy although it is taking her some time to figure out how to get the rolling block out from the bottom. For the nesting cups, we like to use them in the bath as there are holes on the bottom and she is intrigued with the water trickling out.
Cylinder Blocks: They are different sizes and are meant to promote babies’ color and size discrimination abilities.
Sorting Drop Box: The matching box helps introduce the concept of object permanence and working on their hand-eye coordination, fine motor, spatial recognition, and shape sorting skills.
Multi Shape Puzzle - Seasons: This puzzle is a matching exercise set up in different ways to match- by seasons and shape, as well color, kinda.
For the cylinder blocks, I will say that it might take a while for them to understand as I don’t think the difference is significant and the weight difference also isn’t that dramatic. It might be easier to learn that concept if the differences were more dramatic. With the puzzle board, for the age group that this box is targeted for, I think it’s a miss when it comes to the seasons and trying to also match via color ( summer, the picture does not show more red tones ).
Overall, I do think that this is a good, more affordable option in comparison to Lovevery and Kiwi Co. subscription boxes, however you can feel the quality difference. I’ve only tried Lovevery for the first year of our child’s life and their products feel incredibly sturdy whereas these feel lighter and “cheap” in comparison. But again, not everyone can afford $80 every 2 months ( 0-12 months ) and then $120 every 3 months ( 12 months - 5 years ). Whereas these kits are $40-$50 for each box.
If you want to check out Lovevery, you can use my link [ *here ] for $20 off your first play kit subscription - you can cancel at any time. I do get $20 as well.
You’re doing amazing, Mom. Don’t feel pressured if this isn’t in your budget. 💕- Krysti
