Lovevery 11-12 Month Unboxing || Child Development

This is our third Lovevery box and we’ve loved all 3 of them. I will give you a warning, this is the last box we’ll be doing from them ( for the moment at least ) so we can test out a few other brands. There are a few items I have my eye on from future boxes by Lovevery that I may have to just purchase such as their functional toy sink and their functional version of a Swiffer.

Sliding Top Box: This box helps build hand and finger strength as well as develop hand-eye coordination. This also gets them thinking, and problem-solving. “Where did the ball go?” and “ How do I get the ball?”
Opposite Balls: This one is fun. They look identical but are 2 completely different weights. My daughter tries really, really hard to pick up the heavy one with one hand - she is determined, guys! This helps teach them that just because an object looks the same, doesn't mean it is, and it begins to teach them differences ( heavy versus light ). I think teaching them differences this way gets their brain going differently than differences in shape or color because they expect it to be identical because it looks identical.
Pincer Grasp Puzzle: This puzzle is designed to help them practice and reinforce their pincer grasp. My daughter isn’t impressed with this toy, so I might change it up and add a photo to the inside of the base. Almost like playing peek-a-boo. Currently my daughter just tries to chew on the puzzle after she pulls it out using her pincer grasp.

Wooden Peg Puzzle: This one is taking my daughter more time to figure out. She loves playing with it and getting the sticks into the hole, however the pull tab confuses her and stumps her. ‘Posting’ is fitting an object into its container and is a fine motor activity that this toy encourages by using the tab release and engaging problem-solving.
Sensory Switch Box: My daughter caught on to the button one real quick, the other two get her every time still and she tries to problem-solve. It’s said that doing a behavior over and over forms a cognitive blueprint and this is exactly what they’re doing here. They are learning how the physical world works through ‘schema play.’

Cotton Baby Doll: Before your box ships, you can pick which of the 2 colors you want for your doll. Since my daughter is part Filipino, I wanted to introduce a doll that looks more like her dad and some of her dad’s family.
’Animals I see’ Mini Book: I want to remind you to keep the book out of their reach if you aren’t with them. My daughter has started to chew on this when I’m not there to remind her, “books are for reading, not eating.” They are still at the age where they are teething and everything goes into their mouth - curiosity and exploring their surroundings using as many of their senses as they can.
Notes To My Child: This is such a cute idea. You can write letters to your child that they can read later when they’re older. They give you prompts for each one and you place it inside the envelope after.
Play Guide: I love that this guide shows you how you can use the toys with your child along with other age-appropriate activities you can do with them.

Overall, my daughter seems to enjoy them. She doesn’t quite care for the doll yet but hopefully, we can incorporate it more - the Bluey doll she got from my parents for Easter is all she has eyes for right now. It’s hard to say which is her favorite since she seems to play with all of them equally, but I would say this peg board- she enjoys the motion of putting the pegs inside.
I do rotate the toys weekly or every other week to keep things feeling fresh. I also noticed that by the middle of the second week, she’s starting to get bored of the toys she has access to.
Don’t feel pressured to get or spend big money on these toys / subscription boxes - there are other ways you can work on these same skills without the high price tag. Once I get around to it, you can for sure, expect blog posts on how to create the same skills at home using things you may already have, things you can easily thrift, or create on your own for a fraction of the cost. You’ll be able to find them under the “Child Development” category on my blog.
